As an exceptional measure, an extension of the deadline for the deposit of the dissertation or thesis may be granted for a period not exceeding 180 days.

To request an extension of the deadline, the student must submit the request at least 60 days before the maximum deposit deadline (as recorded in the student’s file in the Janus system). Requests submitted less than 60 days in advance will not be considered.

To apply for an extension of the deadline, the student must submit the complete, printed, and signed (by both the student and the supervisor) official extension request form to the Graduate Program Office, along with the required supporting documents listed on the form:

(a) A detailed report from the supervisor, addressed to the Graduate Studies Committee (CPG);
(b) A progress report on the current stage of the dissertation or thesis;
(c) A chronogram outlining the activities to be completed during the extension period.

According to Resolution CoPGr No. 8655, of June 27, 2024, deadline extensions granted due to the Covid-19 pandemic have been revoked.

Students who previously received an extension under this provision will not be eligible for an additional extension through the regular program regulations if the total extension granted has exceeded the maximum limits established by the University's Graduate Regulations, as listed below:

- Maximum time for completion of a Master's degree: 48 months

- Maximum time for completion of a PhD: 60 months

- Maximum time for completion of a Direct PhD: 62 months
