Plutocracy and the Crisis of Democracy - October 1 at 7 p.m.

The crisis of contemporary democracy is deeply linked to the rise of plutocracy, where economic elites capture political institutions and limit popular sovereignty. The roundtable examines how neoliberalism dismantled the postwar social pact, favoring corporate power over democratic representation. We will discuss the hollowing out of the state, the growth of inequalities, the financialization of the economy, and the erosion of citizen participation. Alternatives and resistance to plutocratic rule will also be explored, including social movements, redistributive policies, and new models of democratic governance.
