He holds a Bachelor's degree (BA) in Politics from the University of Liverpool (1998), a Master's degree (MA) in European Union Politics from the University of Liverpool (1999), and a PhD in International Relations from the University of Liverpool (2010). He is a Livre Docente (Habilitation) from the University of São Paulo. Currently, he is an Associate Professor (III) of International Relations at the University of São Paulo (USP), after spending four years at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).
