Professor at the Institute of International Relations and Coordinator of the Multidimensional Security School at the University of São Paulo. He was a professor in the Department of Political Science at USP (2000 to 2009) and a visiting researcher at the Taubman Center at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (2006-2007). He holds a degree in economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a specialization in quantitative research methods from the Inter University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan. He holds a master's and doctorate in political science from IUPERJ in Rio de Janeiro and did his postdoctoral studies in the Department of Political Science at USP. He was a member of the editorial board of Revista Opinião Pública and the Advisory Board of the Center for Public Opinion Studies (CESOP) at the State University of Campinas between 1994 and 2012. He was a member of the Rio de Janeiro City Council (2011-2016) and again in the period 2021-24. He was a member of the Management Council of the São Paulo State Public Security Secretariat (2019-22), a member of the Municipal Public Security Council of the city of São Paulo (2017-20), and coordinated the Advisory Council of the Federal District Government's Brasília Vida Segura (Safe Brasília) program (2017-21).
