On May 22nd and 23rd, 2025, Professor Pedro Dallari, Director of the Institute of International Relations (IRI) at the University of São Paulo (USP), represented IRI at the FIFARMA Annual Summit 2025, held in Mexico City and promoted by the Latin American Federation of the Pharmaceutical Industry (Fifarma).

At the event, which was attended by public authorities, representatives from the pharmaceutical industry and social organizations, as well as researchers from Latin American and U.S. universities, Professor Dallari presented the results of research carried out in 2023 and 2024 at IRI. This research was part of an agreement with Fifarma and resulted in the book Financiamiento de la Salud Pública en América Latina: estudios sobre Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, México y Perú, published by IRI in 2024.

The research and the book were coordinated by Professor Dallari and IRI researcher Guillermo Aponte, with participation from Professors Adriana Schor, Daniela Carla Decaro Schettini, Maria Antonieta Del Tedesco Lins, Marislei Nishijima, and Natália Dus Poiatti from IRI, as well as Flávia Mori Sarti from the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities (EACH). Presentation

In March 2019, the Ombud of the Institute of International Relations was created - IRI Hears.

The Ombud of IRI is open to expressions from the entire community and assumes responsibilities similar to those of the General Ombud of USP, which are:

  • to collaborate with situations that require greater attention in the areas of the University;
  • to analyze, suggest, and seek the preservation of rights.

In accordance with the guidelines of the General Ombud IRI Hears:

  • DOES NOT conduct formal investigations (inquiries, disciplinary processes);
  • DOES NOT have decision-making and regulatory power;
  • DOES NOT act judicially (does not have coercive mechanisms);
  • DOES NOT address issues in the private sphere;
  • DOES NOT replace representative bodies such as Unions, Associations, or Collegiate bodies.

In addition to receiving, listening to, and processing expressions from the community, the function of the Ombud can be used as a space to reflect on procedures, ethics, and the pursuit of building a healthy and productive environment. Thus, it has the potential to contribute to improving the practices and guidelines of a public institution of teaching, research, and university extension.
