On August 26, IRI-USP hosted a postgraduate seminar entitled “A New Horizon in Economic and Financial Cooperation between Brazil and China,” featuring Prof. Hsia Hua Sheng, vice president of Bank of China (Brazil) S.A. and associate professor at FGV-EAESP, with Prof. Yi Shin Tang as mediator and Prof. Maria Antonieta Del Tedesco Lins, both from IRI, participating.
With a solid academic and professional background, Prof. Hsia Hua Sheng holds a degree in economics from USP and a doctorate and master's degree in finance from FGV-EAESP, in addition to having served as a visiting researcher at NYU Stern School of Business and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SHUFE).
A specialist in international finance and emerging markets, he brings to IRI-USP an in-depth view of the challenges and opportunities of Brazil-China cooperation on the global stage.

On August 14, we welcomed Professor Olivier Compagnon (Sorbonne Nouvelle University/IHEAL) to IRI-USP for the conference “Desprovincializar la teología de la liberación” (Deprovincializing Liberation Theology), moderated by Professor Carolina Amaral.
Compagnon shared his reflections on liberation theology from a transatlantic perspective, offering valuable insights from his research on Latin American intellectual and cultural history.

Professor Cristiane Lucena participated in the Ethos Institute Annual Conference, held in August. Her contribution took place on the second day of the event, Wednesday, August 13, in the panel dedicated to the theme “Geopolitics in transformation: opportunities and risks for Brazilian companies.”
The Ethos Conference brought together experts, academics, business leaders, and civil society representatives to discuss the main contemporary challenges, with a focus on social responsibility, sustainability, and governance.

On August 13, we welcomed Professor Douglas de Toledo Piza - International Affairs at Lafayette College (Pennsylvania, USA) and former IRI student (T5, 2006–2009) to IRI-USP for the Public Lecture “Chinese Migrants in South America.”
During the meeting, the speaker presented his book Beyond Informality: How Chinese Migrants Transformed a Border Economy, scheduled for release this month by Stanford University Press.
The activity was part of the Public International Law and Advanced Theory of International Relations courses of the Bachelor's Degree in International Relations at IRI-USP, bringing together students and professors to discuss migration, border economics, and China's role in the region.
