As an exceptional measure, an extension of the deadline for the deposit of the dissertation or thesis may be granted for a period not exceeding 180 days.

To request an extension of the deadline, the student must submit the request at least 60 days before the maximum deposit deadline (as recorded in the student’s file in the Janus system). Requests submitted less than 60 days in advance will not be considered.

To apply for an extension of the deadline, the student must submit the complete, printed, and signed (by both the student and the supervisor) official extension request form to the Graduate Program Office, along with the required supporting documents listed on the form:

(a) A detailed report from the supervisor, addressed to the Graduate Studies Committee (CPG);
(b) A progress report on the current stage of the dissertation or thesis;
(c) A chronogram outlining the activities to be completed during the extension period.

According to Resolution CoPGr No. 8655, of June 27, 2024, deadline extensions granted due to the Covid-19 pandemic have been revoked.

Students who previously received an extension under this provision will not be eligible for an additional extension through the regular program regulations if the total extension granted has exceeded the maximum limits established by the University's Graduate Regulations, as listed below:

- Maximum time for completion of a Master's degree: 48 months

- Maximum time for completion of a PhD: 60 months

- Maximum time for completion of a Direct PhD: 62 months

(Based on Resolution CoPGr 6018, of October 13, 2011)

CPG Announcement: The requirement to submit a final printed copy of the Dissertation or Thesis is suspended.

Corrections to the Dissertation or Thesis after the defense are allowed at the discretion of the supervisor and the student, in order to acknowledge the contributions of the Examining Committee members, who may suggest revisions to enhance the quality of the published documents.

The maximum deadline for submitting the final revised version is 60 (sixty) days from the date of the defense. The revised version, in digital format, must be sent with the supervisor’s approval to the Graduate Program Office email (pospesq.iri@usp.br). Once recorded in the appropriate system, the SPG will forward the document to the USP Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD).

Important: According to Article 6 of Resolution CoPGr No. 6018, of 10/13/2011, the University of São Paulo does not allow title changes in the revised version of the document.

Attention: If the revised Dissertation or Thesis is not submitted to the Graduate Program Office within the 60-day deadline, the originally deposited document will be sent to the USP Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) without the possibility of replacement. If a revised version is submitted, only this version will be made publicly available in the USP Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD).

The title page of the Thesis or Dissertation must explicitly state that it is the revised version. The cover template can be accessed below.

Along with the final version of the Thesis or Dissertation, the student must also submit a new Word version of the work’s registration form to ensure the accuracy of personal and administrative information in the revised version.
