Title Equivalency

Students admitted to the PhD program who completed their master’s degree abroad must request degree equivalency to regularize their enrollment.

It is strongly recommended that students submit their request as soon as possible after being admitted to the program to avoid issues with course deadlines.

To do so, in addition to personal documentation, students must submit:

  1. Original undergraduate diploma or proof of course completion (the original with a simple copy, or an authenticated copy without the need to present the original).
  2. Original master’s diploma or certificate (original and a simple copy, or an authenticated copy without the need to present the original).
  3. Official transcript of records (or equivalent document) from the master’s program (original and a simple copy, or an authenticated copy without the need to present the original).
  4. Defense minutes (or equivalent document) confirming the master’s dissertation defense, including details regarding the examination board and the result of the assessment (or an equivalent academic evaluation document) (original and a simple copy, or an authenticated copy without the need to present the original).
  5. A copy of the dissertation or an equivalent research work produced during the master’s program.
  6. A completed and signed degree equivalency request form.

The degree equivalency request is free of charge for students. If approved, the recognition applies only within the University of São Paulo.

Diploma Recognition

If the student wishes to validate their diploma on a national level, they must follow the guidelines for Diploma Recognition on USPs General Office.

Graduate students from foreign institutions (regular master’s or PhD students) may apply for enrollment in individual courses and/or conduct research at IRI as exchange students for a period of three to twelve months, extendable for up to twelve additional months, either through specific agreements or as freemovers.

For information on requirements and other details, click here if you are a student from a foreign institution, or click here if you are a student from a Brazilian institution.
